What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a Japanese healing technique that uses gentle, hands-on (light touch) or hands-off energy to promote deep relaxation, emotional balance, and physical healing. It can help with clearing energetic imbalances/blockages, reduce stress, and restore the natural flow of life force energy in the body.

First is not a replacement for medical advice, treatment, procedures, nor medications.

How Do I Prepare for My Session?

I can't say if there are any TRUE preparations. What I can say is that I believe the most pure session will happen when you avoid any body/mind altering substances before - yes, this includes caffeine! The exception here is any medication that you're on - please continue to take that.

I suggest avoiding caffeine for at least a few hours prior to your session, and please avoid the use of any alcohol or drugs for at least 48 hours prior to the session. I want you to have the best experience possible.

Ensure you wear something comfortable; you will be in a chair or on a treatment table for 40-60 minutes.

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

Your session will take place in one of our calming locations in Calgary (or in your own home).  You'll lie comfortably, fully clothed, on a treatment table while Reiki energy is channeled through the hands of the practitioner. You may feel warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation - you may even feel nothing at all. Everyone's experiences are very personal. 

You may even fall asleep!

What Should I Expect from My Session?

Each session ranges from 40-60 minutes, with time for discussion before and after. Sessions are different for each person; what you're going through now, or what you have gone through in your past, can shape what your session looks like.

Some feel nothing. Some may slip into a deep, meditative state, and some actually fall asleep (snoring is okay!). Different people have different emotional responses as well, ranging from laughter to tears. If you feel nothing right away, you may experience vivid dreams in the days or weeks following, or notice subtle changes in how you're feeling overall.

How Reiki Can Help You, and Who Reiki Will Benefit

Reiki can be helpful if you want to:

  • Feel less stressed or anxious

  • Ease physical pain or tension

  • Sleep better

  • Let go of emotional pain

  • Feel more balanced and peaceful

Reiki is for ANYONE! It is safe and gentle for seniors, adults, teens, and children. 

Should I Tell My Medical Professional?

If you’re currently under the care of any health professionals—whether a medical doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist, chiropractor, or others—I kindly ask that you let them know you’re considering or receiving care from a wellness practitioner. If they have any questions or concerns, I welcome them to reach out to me directly.

Are Reiki and Healing Touch the Same as a Massage?

I like to say that energy work is relaxing, and what I'd call a massage for your soul - that's where the similarities end.

Reiki and Healing Touch are both done with little physical contact between practitioner and client - the session can be done with absolutely no touch; this is discussed pre-session, to determine level of comfort. There is never any physical (muscles, bones/joints, facia) manipulation.

The client remains fully clothed for the entire session - remember to wear something comfortable. The practitioner will have blankets if you experience chills.

What is Healing Touch?

Similar to Reiki, Healing Touch is not a replacement for medical advice, treatment, procedures, nor medications. 

Healing Touch was created by a nurse, and is endorsed by several medical organisations. 

The goal during a Healing Touch session is to bring balance back to the client, therefore aiding in wellness.

It is an energy therapy, using little to no physical touch. It is heart-centred with your wellness in mind.

Less stress = better health.

Is There any Follow-Up After My Session?

You can opt in or out of a follow-up email following your session. The email includes details of what I, as your practitioner, experience (some of which will be talked about post-session).

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a practice of calming the mind, turning inward, and becoming more aware of the present moment.

It often involves focusing on something simple—such as the breath, a word or phrase, or body sensations—and noticing thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Over time, meditation can help reduce stress, improve clarity, cultivate inner peace, and strengthen your connection to yourself.



Can These Modalities Heal My Illness / Dis-ease?

"HEAL" as a verb, is defined as causing a wound, a person, or an injury to become sound or healthy again. With that definition, it is POSSIBLE that you may experience healing - but that healing is not straight from these modalities. Healing is the result of many things - Reiki and Healing Touch are just a part of it. 

There have been people who point to Reiki (and/or other complimentary therapies / modalities) as what brought them back from their illness. The way I like to think of it is that when we are plagued by dis-ease, we feel stress (sometimes dis-ease is the result of stress). Reiki can aide in the reduction of stress, clearing the way for allopathic medicines to do what they do best.

I truly believe in a mix of allopathic / modern and traditional therapies for optimum health.
